Why Governing Boards Matter — And How They’re Like the Community’s Baseball Team

Most people don’t wake up excited to read budgets, decode agendas, or sit through long board meetings. But every community still needs someone on the field, keeping the game moving and protecting the home team. That’s what governing boards do — and the baseball metaphor makes it easy to understand.

The Board Is the Team on the Field

They’re the ones:
•     making plays
•     calling signals
•     protecting the community’s interests
•     keeping the game fair
•     making sure the basics get done
If they don’t show up, the game doesn’t happen.

Residents aren’t just spectators.

They’re the ones who:
•     fund the field
•     pay for the equipment
•     live with the results of every play
The board works for the community, not the other way around.
Just like a baseball team belongs to its hometown, governing boards belong to the people they serve.
